Map of Route

This is, roughly, the route we took.  The red dots correspond approximately with where we camped each night.

We did the loop anti-clockwise; starting cycling from Moron, heading north up to Lake Hovsgol, across the Jigleg Pass and up to Tsaganuur.  We then turned south down to Byanzurh, where we began the rafting section.  We cycled the last 50km back into Moron, as the river had really started slowing down and we were getting short on time.

The short loop right at the north of the map was up into the taiga to see Tsaataans.  Apart from that stretch, which was on (the world's most uncomfortable) horses, the rest was done on either bike or packrafts!

Alex plotting the route!

  1. A friend and I cycled the same route from Moron to Renchinlhumbe in 2010, having ridden from Ulan Bator. Utterly fantastic adventure, if bloody tough going on foot over the pass. We spent most of the time wishing we'd brought packrafts, so very jealous indeed! :)
